The Singularity

Or perhaps the original final scene from 2001: A Space Odyssey

  1. Long time reader, less a commenter. Anyway Mark, aware you're a very bigtime baseball aficionado when I came across a tribute to another of those too soon gone I thought to bring it to your attention. The second link explaining my own long time affection for the Dodgers. A cousin of mine who pitched for the team.

Ken Burns incidentally got something a bit awry as my cousin has [had] a picture of he and his wife having Mr. Robinson and his wife to their home for a home cooked meal.

    1. You're related to Preacher Roe! That is so cool!! I thought I'd written something here in the past about him, but apparently my memory is failing! In searching back posts, I was surprised that so many touched on the Dodgers. I had been following Vin Scully on social media, and when I saw he'd stopped posting in late May, I was concerned he was failing. His voice threads throughout my entire life. His cadences and unique descriptive abilities raised him above everyone else as a broadcaster and, from what I've read, he was a very decent man.

    2. I was thinking to add something Mark that might go a ways toward illuminating the general character of such people as, especially, Preacher's and for instance my Dad's immediate kin. Preacher's Mom and my Dad's Father were brother and sister. The Uncle Preacher referred to by way of explaining how he took the moniker 'Preacher' was another of their siblings, my 'Uncle Ed.'

Just my opinion but I rather believe Mr. Burns' production might've benefited from some further study into the history of the Ozarks:

    3. Fascinating. Knew nothing about the Peace Society. As you may have picked up, I'm president of a Civil War Roundtable and have read quite a lot but nothing on that group. Something similar happened in the Hill Country of Texas where immigrant and pro-Federal Germans were given the choice to enlist or else. Many did enlist and a number of those who didn't tried to flee and were killed.
